Gerhard Roiss new Chairman of the VERBUND Supervisory Board

05.04.2017Vienna

At VERBUND's 70th general meeting on 5 April 2017 or more specifically at the subsequent supervisory board meeting, Dr. Gerhard Roiss was unanimously elected the new Chairman of the VERBUND Supervisory Board.

In this position, Roiss follows Gilbert Frizberg, who was a member of the VERBUND Supervisory Board since 2000 and chaired it since 2007, successfully guiding the company through the challenging time of the electricity market deregulation and the energy revolution.

With Dr. Gerhard Roiss, the VERBUND Supervisory Board has a recognised energy expert as its new Chair. Roiss, born 1952, came to the oil and gas company OMV in 1990, where he built up the plastics division Borealis. In 1997 he became a member of the Board of Directors of OMV, and from 2011 to 2015 he was General Manager of Austria's largest listed industrial company. This period also included his dedication to renewable energy sources, for example the start of international research initiatives on green hydrogen as a future energy source, and the installation of the first hydrogen filling stations in Germany and Austria.

"I am looking forward to my new position on the Supervisory Board of Austria's largest electricity company and one of Europe's most important hydropower producers. With a production base from nearly 100% renewable sources, VERBUND is in a very good position for the energy future – innovation, cooperation, and a market and customer focus are our route planners."
