The VERBUND company fire brigade in Kaprun is delighted about its new command vehicle. The official handover took place on 14 November in the presence of Mayor Domenik David and parish administrator Norbert Ronacher. Sponsorship of the new vehicle was taken on by plant group manager Tanja Janisch-Breuer.

“The emergency vehicle is state of the art in firefighting technology and will make an important contribution to operational fire protection at the VERBUND power plants in Kaprun. It is a valuable addition to our fire engine, especially for managing complex tasks in the extensive tunnel systems and power station caverns. VERBUND has invested around 280,000 euros in this,” reports the newly appointed sponsor Janisch-Breuer, delighted with the acquisition.

“As an active member of the Kaprun volunteer fire brigade, I am pleased that the VERBUND plant fire brigade has received an additional new emergency vehicle. The comrades work closely with the local volunteer fire brigades on larger operations and also contribute to the safety of the entire municipality of Kaprun and beyond,” said Mayor Domenik David, who sees the benefit for the whole region.

The Kaprun company fire brigade

The VERBUND company fire brigade in Kaprun has a total of 66 active members and works closely with the surrounding volunteer fire brigades in order to be able to respond quickly and effectively in an emergency. Each year, the team carries out an average of four firefighting operations in the company and more than ten technical operations away from the power plants. The tasks in the large operational area that it covers are challenging and diverse. They range from fire and technical protection for the entire power plant, including the traffic tunnel, to supporting APG at the two substations and providing pilot services for the volunteer fire brigade in Schwarzach.

“The new vehicle that we are putting into service today means we are not only perfectly equipped for our operations, but are also able to promote cohesion and camaraderie in our fire brigade. It is a valuable tool that helps us to overcome challenges more efficiently and save lives together,” said Commander Markus Heitzmann, getting to the heart of the matter.

“Tanja” specially equipped for tunnel use

The new command vehicle is named “Tanja” and joins the fleet of the VERBUND fire brigade in Kaprun. It is a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis and is specially equipped for use in tunnels. The superstructure was built by Magirus Lohr and includes a number of special devices such as breathing apparatus, battery-powered recovery equipment and a POLY extinguishing system. The total value of the purchase cost VERBUND around 280,000 euros.
