Austrian-Russian cooperation for the construction of new hydropower plants

Russia´s largest hydropower generator and Austria´s leading electricity company want to cooperate in the construction of new hydropower plants in Russia. The Federal Hydrogeneration Company and VERBUND have, to this event, concluded a joined Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed on Friday, 10/11/2006 by Vyacheslav Sinyugin, Chairman of the Board of HydroOGK, and Hans Haider, VERBUND General Director.

Both parties are to work on a joint study for the construction of new hydropower plants in Russia. For this purpose, a work committee consisting of experts from both companies is to be established, in which common work spheres as well as specific new power plant projects are to be defined.

Federal Hydrogeneration Company (HydroOGK) is Russia´s largest hydropower generator, which, controlled by the state, unites 49 hydropower plants with an aggregate installed capacity of 23,308 Megawatt.

VERBUND is Austria´s leading electricity company. The VERBUND hydropower plants have an aggregate installed capacity of 6,300 Megawatt.
