Robert Koubek becomes Managing Director of VERBUND Thermal Power

The shareholders of VERBUND Thermal Power GmbH unanimously appointed Robert Koubek (46) as Managing Director of VERBUND Thermal Power on 23 May 2011. Koubek will succeed Anton Smolak (67), who will enter a well-earned retirement at the end of November 2011 following 37 years at VERBUND and 10 years as Managing Director of VERBUND Thermal Power.

In his capacity as a graduate of engineering at Vienna University of Technology, Koubek was able to establish himself as a successful and international Project Manager for power plant construction during the course of his career path at ABB, VA Tech and OMV. Since 2009, Mr Koubek has been employed for VERBUND in France, where he is responsible for the entire technical agenda of Poweo Production S.A.S. in his capacity as Deputy CEO.
On account of his technical experience in the thermal power plant sector, Koubek is ideally suited to the technical management of VERBUND Thermal Power GmbH. Walter Mayer continues in his role as Commercial Director.
