Optimisation for Riedl Energy Storage Project
Some 40 citizens from neighbouring municipalities informed themselves about optimisation measures arising from the provincial planning assessment.
By means of current plans and images, the project management demonstrated the planning changes specified in the provincial planning assessment. These measures comprise the relocating of the intake and outlet structure from the tailrace of Jochenstein power plant to the reservoir situated above the power plant, directly on the premises of the Danube power plant of Jochenstein, as well as the relocation of fish ladder access to downstream in Austrian territory. Furthermore, it is intended that an even distribution of water level fluctuation on both reservoirs of Aschach and Jochenstein be achieved by means of a coordinated mode of operation of Jochenstein power plant and Riedl energy storage plant.
The citizens of Obernzell mainly discussed the issues of cycle paths and cycle tourism, traffic, drinking water, flooding, water level fluctuations and compensating areas. Mayor Josef Würzinger was delighted with the comprehensive information and businesslike discussion concerning the project. An important concern for him is cyclists’ safety during the construction phase and he called upon the body responsible for the project to ensure that cycle tourism is impacted as little as possible by construction site traffic.
"Despite all necessary optimisation measures, we are working on the assumption that we will be able to adhere to the set time and budget frameworks," informed project manager Dominik Mayr. The submission documents for the planning assessment procedure will be finalised by the end of the year and submitted to Passau district office, as responsible approving authority, by the start of 2012, as planned.
