VERBUND and the Österreichische Bundesforste (Austrian Federal Forests) sign the wind power partnership with the Pretul municipalities.

Austria’s largest electricity company, VERBUND, and Österreichischen Bundesforste (Austrian Federal Forests) are starting their collaboration with the municipalities of Ganz, Langenwang, Ratten and Rettenegg for the development of a wind farm project in the region.

Through the contract, the project partners and municipalities are establishing the collaboration for the expansion of wind energy in the region. The project will make an important contribution to renewable power production in the province of Styria. The 14 wind power units currently planned will collectively be able to generate the annual electricity requirement of some 35,000 households in the region. The wind power project lies in an area that has been declared a priority by the province of Styria.

Today, within the framework of the ceremonial signing of the contract in Langenwang, not only was the partnership between the region and the project sponsors reinforced, but the foundation stone was also laid for the approval process by the authorities in accordance with the EIA Act.

The project partners confirm their commitment to realising the project in line with the highest environmental standards. Robert Nusser, the head of wind and photovoltaics at Österreichischen Bundesforste: "With the generation of energy from renewable, natural resources, we are making an important contribution to the energy turnaround. In our capacity as manager of the natural territory, we pay special attention to the ecological sustainability of the projects. Thanks to the planned wind farm, it is possible to save on up to 74,000 tonnes of CO2 per year – compared to the use of coal for power generation."

Dieter Meyer, managing director of VERBUND Renewable Power GmbH: "Through direct contact with the population, and the collaboration with the local community, we are able to demonstrate that we are more than a project sponsor – we are a long-term and reliable partner."
