VERBUND & SMATRICS: Start off cleanly with e-mobility

26.08.2015Wien

Lower Austrian man wins electric BMW i3 in the VERBUND online sweepstakes.

The winner of the VERBUND online sweepstake has been established. An electric BMW i3 including a SMATRICS charging card valid for one year was handed over with great ceremony to Mr. Peter Bachmann from Biedermannsdorf.

VERBUND, Austria's leading electricity company, and SMATRICS, provider of the first comprehensive network of charging stations in Austria, are both excited about e-mobility. "Start off cleanly" was the motto of the VERBUND online sweepstakes that went on in early summer within the VERBUND "Thank you, water power!" campaign. At stake was a BMW i3 including a charging card valid for one year of charging with green electricity at any SMATRICS e-charging station. A total of 35,000 people took part in the competition, correctly answering the questions about the number of VERBUND water power plants in Austria (correct answer: 113) and of SMATRICS charging stations (correct answer: more than 170), and identifying energy wasters in the household.

Presentation of the Prize at BMW Vienna in Heiligenstadt

Peter Bachmann from Biedermannsdorf was thrilled about the grand prize, an electric BMW i3 including a SMATRICS charging card valid for one year: "The first few days I couldn't even believe it! I've never won anything before – and now all at once an innovative electric car with a cool design!"

"We are betting on electromobility for the transportation sector's energy future—especially if e-vehicles run on electricity from 100% Austrian hydropower!" emphasises Beate McGinn, head of corporate communication at VERBUND. "We wish Mr. Bachmann great fun with his new BMW i3!" Michael-Viktor Fischer, CEO of SMATRICS, also congratulates the winner: "We are delighted to keep Mr. Bachmann always mobile with our now over 220 public charging stations all over Austria."
