The new, superbly located apprentice accommodation should be ready to move into in early 2024.

The building of the new apprentice lodgings in Ybbs-Persenbeug is efficient and attractive. On approx. 3,000 square metres, VERBUND is placing an appealing and very visible sign for the occupational training of highly qualified specialists. The total investment of 12.3 million euros supplements the modern training workshops with attractive accommodation for up to 40 apprentices, along with modern event and training rooms as well as parkland.

Since the groundbreaking in November 2022, construction on the apprentice campus has been proceeding apace. Following the topping out ceremony for the apprentice lodgings, the coming weeks will witness completion of the interiors, construction of the façade and, from the autumn, the creation of parkland between the workshop and the apprentice lodgings. Mostly regional providers were used for all the trades. The tight schedule has so far been punctually adhered to. The new lodgings should be ready to move into in early 2024.

Apprentice lodgings and training centre

The ground floor was built as a solid concrete construction. The two floors above that are sustainably executed in a timber construction. A park-like campus connects the workshop to the lodgings. Zones of communication and retreat offer contemporary levels of comfort in combination with 42 single rooms, including three wheelchair-accessible rooms. The room design also allows seminars to be held for training and development measures throughout the company. A multipurpose event hall offers space for up to 200 guests.
The architecture office Viereck is responsible for the planning. The focus was on functionality and energy efficiency, which was achieved through the specific location of the rooms, good accessibility of the workshops and short distances during training.

Training at the Ybbs-Persenbeug site

Since the beginning, VERBUND has opted to train its own power plant operators itself. The dual vocational training is unique in Austria and covers both electrical and mechanical engineering. In July, a total of 22 apprentices from Ybbs-Persenbeug sat the final examination in the specialisms of electrical engineering and metals technology. VERBUND pays special attention to inspiring greater numbers of women to take up technical apprenticeships. Five young women will commence their apprenticeship at Ybbs-Persenbeug in autumn 2023.
