As a token of respect and recognition, Martin Bartenstein, Minister of Economics and Labour, awarded the special Austrian silver medal of honour to Hans Haider, parting VERBUND General Director, for services rendered to the Republic of Austria.

"Hans Haider is one of the most eminent personalities not just in the Austrian electricity industry, but in the entire economy. At the top of VERBUND, he has performed excellent work for over 13 years," comments Martin Bartenstein.

According to many, Hans Haider is, to a large extent, to be thanked for the success of VERBUND: "It is the merit of Hans Haider and his management team to have led VERBUND from its role of a monopoly supplier to that of a company successful on the market, which has been able to attain an outstanding position in the European competition," declares the Minister of Economics. Bartenstein is convinced that VERBUND will remain on its course of success.

On 11 May, Hans Haider will be leaving the company after 13 years of service. Michael Pistauer, to date his deputy, will then take over the leadership as General Director of VERBUND.
