Coaches must not exceed a maximum length of 14 metres and a maximum height of 3.85 metres (up to 4.10 m with escort vehicle)!

TIP: An escort vehicle can be requested at the toll station free of charge!

Two sets of traffic lights have been installed at the narrowest points on the Malta High Alpine Road for the safety of our guests. The road can only be driven in one direction in this area. Coach drivers have the option to request an escort vehicle free of charge at the toll station. The escort vehicle will collect you at the first traffic light and accompany you through the switchback tunnel up to the bus park at the Kölnbreinsperre. The escort vehicle cannot be ordered in advanced. Please take this into consideration in your plans.

The journey from the toll station up to the Kölnbrein dam takes between half an hour and an hour. The waiting time at the first set of traffic lights is a maximum of 22 minutes and at the second set of traffic lights a maximum of 10 minutes Your guests have the opportunity to visit the Maralmbach Falls at the first set of traffic lights. There is waiting time information right next to the falls. So you won't miss a green phase. Please take the traffic light phases into account in your planning so that you arrive on time for the booked programme points.

When you arrive at the Kölnbrein dam, drive past the visitors' car park directly to the bus park at the Berghotel Malta. The souvenir shop from where the dam wall tours start is located directly at the car park at the Kölnbrein Dam.

A group is considered to be at least 15 paying people. Above this number, the booked package incl. all services is free of charge for the bus driver and tour leader! The group offer is valid exclusively for groups travelling by coach. Single trips by car are not considered to be a travel group.

We kindly ask you to book groups of more than 15 people in advance. The maximum permitted group size is 40 people per tour The dam wall tours take place daily from June to September between 09:00 and 16:00 on the hour. In May and October on request! Please allow a little more time for your arrival. The guided tours are usually fully booked on busy days. It is therefore not possible to change the time.

General terms and conditions of VERBUND Tourismus GmbH (hereinafter referred to as “VTO”) for the purchase of service packages of VTO

VTO expressly notes that the term “customer” as used in these general terms and conditions refers both to female customers and male customers. It has not been possible to make the distinction throughout for reasons of legibility.

§ 1 Scope of the general terms and conditions

1.1. These general terms and conditions (T&Cs) apply to all contracts concluded between VTO and the customer regarding service packages (guided tours, special packages, etc.) (hereinafter “services”) for groups (such as for companies, travel companies, schools and educational institutions, etc.) in the version applicable at the time of booking.

1.2. VTO provides the services solely on the basis of these T&Cs. Other terms and conditions of the customer or changes and/or additions to the terms and conditions made by the customer are irrelevant for VTO and shall not apply unless VTO expressly consents to their applicability in writing.

§ 2 Description of services

2.1. VTO operates various excursion destinations in Austria (e.g. Kaprun high mountain reservoirs, Malta High Alpine Road and reservoir, as well as Schlegeis Alpine Road and reservoir). Various activities can be undertaken at these excursion destinations, which VTO offers as services.

2.2. The individual services can be viewed on the website at www.verbund.com/tourismus. The presentation and pricing of the services on the website exists to provide the customer with information only and does not constitute a legally binding offer. Information on available dates is shown on the website or in the online form for the individual services.

§ 3 Prices

The prices shown in the contract offer are deemed as agreed. All prices shown are final prices inclusive of all statutory taxes and charges.

§ 4 Formation of contract / payment / withdrawal

4.1. On the basis of a non-binding inquiry of the customer (via online form, email or telephone), VTO will prepare a contract offer indicating the services and prices, and will send the contract offer to the customer by email to the email address provided by the customer.

4.2. A contract is formed between the customer and VTO with the customer’s written acceptance of the contract offer by email.

4.3. If payment is made “upon receipt of invoice”, VTO will send the customer the invoice by post. At the customer’s request, the invoice can also be sent electronically by email. If the customer has selected "debit card" or "cash" as the method of payment, payment must be made on site.

§ 5 Withdrawal/cancellation

5.1 VTO shall be entitled to withdraw from the contract for an important reason until the services have been rendered, in particular

following force majeure (this includes, in particular, weather conditions rendering the performance of the services impossible and/or involving an increased risk for the customer or the travel group)
following a change in the legal situation making it impossible to carry out the tour.

5.2 Cancellation by the customer is possible without charge up to 1 day before the planned provision of the service.  

§ 6 Liability and warranty

6.1 As far as these GTC have not explicitly stipulated otherwise, VTO assumes liability within the scope of the provision of its services in accordance with the statutory provisions. VTO shall not assume any liability for services provided by third parties.

6.2 VTO shall not assume liability for any failure in the provision of services resulting from force majeure.

§ 7 Data protection

VTO complies with the applicable data protection regulations when processing personal data and shall solely use data provided by the customer to the extent necessary for the performance of the contractual relationship and for the use of and billing for the service. § 8 Place of performance/governing law/place of jurisdiction/other

8.1 The place of performance shall be the location resulting from the use of the booked service.

8.2 The place of jurisdiction in respect of any disputes arising out of or in connection with the agreement shall be the court of competent jurisdiction for Vienna, Innere Stadt; in respect of actions against customers who are consumers within the sense of the Austrian Consumer Protection Act (KSchG), the place of jurisdiction shall be the place of residence, the habitual domicile or the location of the place of employment in accordance with § 14 KSchG. The GTC and the contract shall come exclusively under Austrian material law, but not under the provisions of the UN Sales Convention and the non-mandatory referral provisions under international private law; any further referrals or references back to these provisions shall be excluded.

8.3 Insofar as any provision of these GTC is/becomes invalid or unenforceable, then the remaining part of these GTC shall not be adversely impacted as a result. All other parts of the contract shall remain binding. The invalid or unenforceable provision shall be replaced by a valid or enforceable provision coming closest to the invalid or unenforceable provision in legal and economic terms, with the exception of consumers within the meaning of the Austrian Consumer Protection Act.

8.4 Any amendments or supplements to the contract and/or these GTC must be made in writing (letter, fax, e-mail), notwithstanding § 10 para. 3 of the Consumer Protection Act. This also applies to any amendment of this particular clause.

38The following supplementary conditions and information apply to Malta High Alpine Road. 

Validity of group offer:

Payment of group packages:
in cash or with bank card or credit card (Visa & MasterCard) at the toll station. The payment of drinks takes place directly in the restaurant.

Payment of dam wall tours:
As not everyone in a group normally wishes to take part in the dam wall tour, the tour is to be paid for separately at the till in the shop, in cash or with bank card or credit card (Visa & MasterCard).

Payment by voucher:
For travel companies with registered offices in Austria, this is possible on request with confirmation of cost coverage. (Group packages, toll, dam wall tours)

Contact partners:
Our excursion destination is located in a very exposed location. Due to weather conditions in the mountains, we may occasionally need to inform the travel group about road conditions. To avoid any inconvenience, please let us know the contact details of the contact person on site
(bus driver, tour leader): name, phone number.

Cancellation policy:
Cancellations that are made before 06:00 p.m. on the day before arrival are free of charge.
Cancellations that are made on the day of the reservation or no-shows will be charged the full menu price for the ordered number of people. A flat rate of €10.00 per person will be charged for à la carte reservations. The reserved tables will be held for you for half an hour.
