Unter Strom (Live Wire)
The exhibition UNTER STROM (English: live wire) in the atelier of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, shows photographs pertaining to the subject of electricity, which resulted from the cooperation between the photography classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the University of Arts and Industrial Design Linz, within the art funding programme KUNST IM FLUSS (Art flow) from VERBUND.
In 2013, VERBUND initiated a funding project, which saw students from all three arts universities being invited, for the first time since photography as a branch of study came into existence. The set topic UNTER STROM (live wire) allows for a maximum of creativity and makes it possible for young artists to engage in diverse artistic and philosophical discussions. The exhibition gathers works from 50 students and content-wise demonstrates a large range of technical view points. The photographs, videos and installations by the young artists present their very diverging interpretations of the openly set subject in a way which is rich in variety.
An accompanying catalogue offers a wider audience access to the artistic works. The exhibition UNTER STROM can be seen starting in June 2014 at the Vertical Gallery at the VERBUND headquarters in Am Hof 6a, 1010 Vienna.
VERBUND and its Commitment to Young Art
The electricity company VERBUND's commitment to art has, along with the successful SAMMLUNG VERBUND (Verbund art collection), meant the creation of a further avenue for fine arts, which funds young artists. Among these one can already find the successful art projects with students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (2006/2007), the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (2008/2009) as well as the University of Arts and Industrial Design Linz (2011/2012), which has attracted a lot of attention from the wider public.
