In October 2021, VERBUND decided that it wanted to take the next step in the life cycle of this power generation plant. “We are living up to our responsibility as a neighbour, operator and location partner, and are now beginning to dismantle the systems of Block 1 at the power plant site,” according to Thomas Zagler, VERBUND project leader at the Dürnrohr site. VERBUND is thus finally closing a chapter of Austrian industrial history in Tullnerfeld after 30 years.
The first identifiable measures will probably be the dismantling of the flue gas cleaning systems of Block 1 from January 2022. Work on dismantling the entire system in Block 1 will probably continue into the second half of 2023.
“We are endeavouring to minimise any impacts that could be caused by he dismantling work. All official requirements will be implemented and we are in constant touch with the municipality of Zwentendorf,” says Thomas Zagler.
The demolition work is mostly taking place in the period from Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. In a few cases, work can also be done until 8:00 pm on weekdays and between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm on Saturday.
