Hamead Ahrary took on management of the new Hydrogen department of VERBUND AG on 1.1.2022. He is thus responsible for implementing and operationalising the hydrogen strategy of Austria’s leading energy company.
The 48 year-old business graduate Hamead Ahrary has successfully held numerous positions in the European energy industry for almost 20 years and brings with him a wide range of expertise and experience with a focus on gas markets, marketing & sales, trading, as well as business and market development.
Having completed a degree in business administration at the University of Essen, Ahrary embarked on his professional career at WINGAS, the BASF/Gazprom joint venture at the time. Having worked for five years as head of sales, he moved to BASF SE, where he took on responsibility for the worldwide gas purchasing of the BASF Group. After returning to WINGAS, he initially headed up sales and business development in several European countries.
Two years later, Ahrary, who grew up in the Ruhr, relocated to Vienna to build up the Central European business of WINGAS, first in Vienna and later in Prague. In this position, he was responsible for constant growth, above all on the Austrian and Czech markets. In 2019, he took on management of the European activities of WINGAS.
“I am very much looking forward to the new challenge and am certain that together we will decisively advance this extremely exciting and forward-looking set of issues to do with green hydrogen, so that VERBUND can continue to make a big contribution to the sustainable and robust conversion of the energy landscape,” says Hamead Ahrary.
