Fish bypass:
The fish bypass has been in operation at the “Mixnitz” weir of the run-of-river power plant since 2006. It consists of a combination of technical structure with a near-natural pond pass. In total, the fish bypass is 230 metres long and overcomes the 9 metres difference in height.
In order to guarantee the ecological function of the drainage channel and year-round passability for all native organisms, the residual water discharge was increased in 2015.
Weir system: The weir system is located in Mixnitz, a few kilometres upstream of Laufnitzdorf. An approx. 7 km-long channel parallel to the Mur runs from there and carries the water to the turbines in the powerhouse. An underwater trench below the Laufnitzdorf power plant leads the water back into the Mur after approx. 200 metres.
Surge chamber: The surge chamber is connected to the powerhouse via two pressure pipes.
