A new fish migration aid is being built at the Inn power plant in Rosenheim
VERBUND is continuing its work on the near-natural development of the river landscape along the Bavarian Inn in 2025 and is planning a new fish migration aid for the Rosenheim power plant. The ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled for early summer. The necessary preparatory work will start at the end of January.
Originally, the Inn near Rosenheim was characterised by a widely branched channel and a broad spectrum of typical floodplain animal and plant species. Due to bank corrections from the beginning of the 20th century, these structures were largely lost and ecological continuity has been interrupted since the construction of the power stations.
In order to remedy the resulting deficits and recreate habitats that have become rare, VERBUND's Inn power plants are planning to ecologically upgrade the Inn and the accompanying floodplain area in the area of the Rosenheim barrage and restore the continuity for typical Inn fish.
The centrepiece of this nature conservation project is the construction of a 2.2 kilometre long near-natural bypass watercourse on the left bank. In addition, a variety of accompanying habitats are to be created to enhance the natural area, the nature conservation value of which goes far beyond the mere connectivity function. A valuable habitat characterised by gravel that can be rearranged will be created in the entire area of the bypass channel.
The entire construction site must be cleared in advance for the construction work planned from summer 2025. The necessary clearing work is required for nature conservation reasons and has been agreed with the relevant authorities. The felling work will start at the end of January 2025 This will affect the left bank of the Inn in the area between the road bridge on the St2095 (Miesbacher Str.) and approx. 1.2 km south of the Inn power plant in Rosenheim. For safety reasons, there may be short-term, localised bank path closures during the work.
In the coming years, the last obstacles along the VERBUND hydropower plants on the Inn and Danube will be removed with comprehensive ecological measures. From 2027, the river stretches from the Iron Gate in Romania to Tyrol will be barrier-free for all migratory fish species.
