Overview of VERBUND offers

Large-scale battery storage: paving the way for the energy transition

The expansion of wind and solar energy is causing major fluctuations in the electricity grid. Battery storage systems balance out these fluctuations. With grid-related services, battery storage systems secure the distribution grid and help to integrate renewable energies. By feeding in power and energy, costs for the use of the upstream grid or transformer levels are saved. Excess energy is used on the balancing energy market or intraday market. With 110 MW / 130 MWh already in operation at eleven locations in Germany and a further 300 MW in the planning stage, VERBUND is positioning itself as a major player in the field of battery storage and is thus consistently pursuing its goal of around 1 GW of storage capacity by 2030. To this end, VERBUND offers various models of cooperation to partners such as municipal utilities, industrial customers and project developers.

Flexibility marketing: the key to a successful energy transition

Intelligent, digital and flexible solutions are the key to a secure energy supply. Balancing generation and consumption is one of the major challenges of the energy transition. VERBUND-Power-Flex from VERBUND offers a customized marketing solution that includes optimization on all energy markets. Flexible plants and storage systems are optimized based on demand and used profitably. This enables plant operators to generate additional revenue and contribute to a stable power grid.

From availability reports and deployment optimization on all short-term energy markets to plant control and transparent reporting, everything is handled fully automatically. The trading algorithms developed by VERBUND ensure intelligent placement of offers, taking into account opportunities in all markets.

Direct marketing for maximum returns

New marketing concepts and revenue opportunities are providing strong support for the expansion of renewable energy plants. VERBUND, the leading provider of guarantees of origin in Austria and the German-speaking region, offers operators of wind, solar and small-scale hydropower plants attractive direct marketing opportunities.

For years, VERBUND has been marketing a growing portfolio of over 1,000 MW in Germany and is also active in this promising market segment in France, Luxembourg, Romania and Austria. With the development of a significant portfolio of own assets in Spain, VERBUND is consistently continuing its growth course in the field of renewable energies, also internationally. In Germany, VERBUND offers both traditional direct marketing via the market premium model and PPA products for plants that are no longer eligible for funding under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (post-REA plants) or other direct marketing.

Guarantees of origin for greater transparency

Guarantees of origin (GOs) for electricity play a central role in promoting transparency in the energy market. They provide clear evidence of where and how electricity is generated from renewable energy sources and offer companies a valuable basis for achieving their sustainability goals. In view of the growing importance of information about energy sources used – particularly with regard to CO₂ emissions and environmental pollution – the demand for verifiably renewable energy sources is continuously increasing.
VERBUND enables companies to transparently present their electricity procurement sources by using HKN. This helps industrial customers to select renewable electricity in a targeted manner in order to reduce their Scope 2 emissions and carbon footprint. In addition, companies benefit from the increasing requirements for sustainability reporting. Thanks to the legal framework and regulatory control provided by the HKN register, HKNs offer the necessary security and can serve as an additional quality feature.

VISION – VERBUND's innovative sales and trading platform

The central service portal VISION supports business customers, whether municipal utilities, industrial companies or operators of decentralized energy generation plants, in flexible electricity procurement, marketing optimization, market data, invoice archiving and demand response services. Easy data analysis through rapid access to market and plant data, a high level of user-friendliness through intuitive navigation and clear visualizations, and optimized decision-making based on precise real-time data enable customers to optimize their energy processes and actively shape the energy transition. Particularly noteworthy are the comprehensive interfaces (APIs), which enable machine-to-machine communication and thus make the processes between the customer and VERBUND fully digital and automatable. This is a trend that really took off in 2024 and will continue to gain momentum with impressive momentum in 2025.

E-charging infrastructure: Charging solutions combine the energy and mobility transition

VERBUND offers all-in-one charging infrastructure solutions for companies, the real estate industry, the hotel industry, gastronomy and the retail sector to make it easier to get started in the field of electric mobility. As a full-service solution provider for energy and sustainability, VERBUND powered by SMATRICS actively supports the industrial, real estate and transport sectors on the road to emission-free mobility and links the energy and mobility transitions. This strengthens the attractiveness of the location, enhances the green image and improves the carbon footprint.

Real-time data ecosystem as a bridge between industry and energy suppliers

In an innovation partnership, VERBUND relies on the newly founded joint venture TTTech ZYNE, which will offer a reliable and secure real-time energy management solution from mid-2025 that acts as an intelligent bridge between industry, energy suppliers and municipal utilities. The energy management product “Energy Performance System (EPS)” modulates and adapts the full supply of decentralized systems, integrates PV self-generation, controls & prioritizes charging stations for electric vehicles and optimizes battery storage with the aim of optimizing the costs of the entire energy system at peak times. The EPS offers a holistic solution that meets the challenges of modern energy supply for our customers.

Changing conditions in the energy market have led to energy costs becoming a decisive location factor. At the same time, the requirements for efficiency, sustainability and secure, trustworthy solutions for critical infrastructures are increasing. Real-time data plays a key role here: it enables companies to react flexibly to market signals, reduce balancing energy costs and dynamically adjust energy flows. Innovation partners TTTech and VERBUND are tackling these issues with an approach that combines cutting-edge technologies with in-depth market knowledge.

Photovoltaic solutions for production and mobility

Photovoltaic systems help companies become more environmentally friendly, more economical and more energy independent. With its self-consumption model, VERBUND offers companies comprehensive energy concepts for their path to a sustainable energy future. New to the program are PV carport systems. VERBUND is adding carport solutions to its range of roof and open-field systems, transforming parking areas into solar power plants. In combination with charging infrastructure, this provides an elegant additional benefit for emission-free mobility. Existing areas are put to good use for solar power production, charging options and shade. VERBUND is thus setting new standards for the energy and mobility transition.
