Take a look behind the scenes of Austrias and Bavarias largest hydropower electricity producer
With an investment amounting to a hundred million euros, all six of the power plant’s machine sets from the 1950s were renewed, thereby increasing generation by more than 77 million kilowatt hours (kWh) to a total of 1.4 billion kWh and further improving reliability. The efficiency increase of 6% achieved in this way corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 22,000 households.
These measures at the existing power plant Ybbs-Persenbeug make it possible to significantly increase the production of electricity through hydropower and thereby to cut back CO2 emissions by another 62,000 tonnes per year – without any structural intervention in the surroundings.
In the area of the “Ybbser Scheibe”, habitats and spawning grounds for fish were created through new gravel banks and islands with support from the EU-LIFE+ programme.
